Lying in the fertile valley of three extinct volcanoes, only twenty minutes from the vibrant hustle of the historic center of San Miguel de Allende, this breathtaking old world hacienda rests on a clean mountain spring fed lake. Natural, serene surroundings nurture the mind, body and spirit, intriguing and soothing every part of the soul. It is the perfect setting for partners, friends, family and guests to escape, disconnect, unwind and explore their inner tranquility.
Dating back to 1730, the hacienda originally grew wheat for the silver mines in Guanajuato. Remnants of a 250-year-old aqueduct system are scattered across the mountains. The original grinding stone resides in the churchyard, with another rumored to be in the lake.
The hacienda has always welcomed guests. In 1810 Ignacio Perez spent the first night of his ride at Purísima before warning Ignacio Allende and Miguel Hildago of the approaching Spanish army. The Spanish revolution is said to have been delayed one day because there was a fiesta at Purísima de Jalpa.
Two Spanish and one French revolution later, the construction fell into ruins and was scavenged. In the late 1970’s a restoration project began based upon the recollection of the Jalpa elders. The former barn was converted into a casino for wealthy Texans and Mexicans who gambled into the wee hours of the night. Legend has it that at its height, players, dealers and entertainers were flown into Jalpa on float planes.
Much of the furniture, ironwork and art at the hacienda are the work of the famous and beloved Mexican artist, Alejandro Rangel Hildago. His life is memorialized at the University of Colima, in a museum bearing his name. Purísima holds over a hundred pieces of his work which beautifully depicts the unique fauna and flora of the hacienda.
With nine bedrooms and nine baths, including six luxurious suites, Hacienda Purísima de Jalpa provides individual care and complete anonymity if desired, allowing it to function as an extravagant home or a vacation resort. The expansive hacienda has played host to everything from romantic getaways, intimate gatherings for close friends, large celebrations such as weddings, corporate retreats, family reunions and a destination for spiritual renewal.
Purísima offers a variety of activities that are meant to nourish your mind, body and spirit, including: Horse and Burro Trail Rides, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Kayaking, Fishing, Animal Feeding and Petting, Photography, Spa Services, Yoga, Birdwatching, Monarch Watching, Croquette, Badminton, Volleyball and Stargazing. Connect with nature by taking a ride on a friendly horse. Pamper yourself with a relaxing massage or a paraffin wax treatment. Strengthen your body by kayaking on the lake or find inner peace through early morning yoga sessions on the lawn. The hacienda also provides never ending opportunities for photo and film enthusiasts.
